Law and Freedom:Analysis of John Mill's Ideology of Law

John Stuart Mill was the prominent liberalist thinker in the 19th century. Based on the interpretation of his works, this paper fully analyzes the philosophical base for Mill's law thought, his idea of law and freedom. In philosophy, Mill bases his argument on the pursuit of man's self-fulfillment by remoulding the utilitarianism; as for the law idea, Mill stresses law's punishment function and its reasonable scope. He also gives special interpretations for the issues of private property and judiciary; In freedom, Mill discusses freedom's definition and environment, especially his interpretation of "social violence" and "personal liberty" produces great influence on the later generations.
