Affiliation:Anne M. Piehl is Associate Professor of Public Policy, John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University and Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research. Her research covers the economics of crime and criminal justice policy including the determinants of criminal sentencing, the dynamics of youth violence, the effect of criminal justice policy on immigrants (and vice versa), policy and programs regarding inmate release from prison, the relationship between economic opportunity and criminal behavior, and the statistical methods used to evaluate social policies. She received her Ph.D. in economics from Princeton University. She currently serves as the director of research for the Massachusetts' Governor's Commission on Correctional Reform.
