The relationship between Protestant ethic and capitalism spirit, proposed by Webber a century ago, is closely related to the process of East Asian capitalism development, which is embedded in Webber' s Hypothesis about China. Since Webber's Hypothesis was born, many interpretations and responses have been made by the scholars of East Asian modernization studies but none of them can completely falsify it and its rational core will still be an important approach to understand the relationship between East Asian traditional culture and modernization.
