The U.S.-Thai Relations during the Period of Laos Crisis in 1960-1962

The Cold War in East Asia deeply influenced Laos's internal politics since Geneva Conference of 1954.During 1960-62 Crisis,Laos aroused great concern of the international society and was the then focus.It was a great challenge to SEATO(Southeast Asia Treaty Organization) for its role in East Asia.Meanwhile,the United States and Thailand had different judgments and considerations on Laos's situation for they had different strategies toward Southeast Asia.In order to settle the contradiction between them,the two countries issued Rusk-Thanat Joint Statement and formed a bilateral defense alliance with each other.It strengthened U.S.-Thai relations and had a great impact on Cold War in Southeast Asia.
