"Capital" Accumulation Strategies of Rural Community Elite at the End of 20th Century

Basic strategies of Chinese rural community elite to accumulate and expand economic capital in the 1980s and 1990s include controlling consumption and expenses, getting reduction or free of tax or dodging a tax, not returning a loan and owning labor surplus; basic strategies to accumulate human capital include self-learning by purchasing relevant papers and books, going out for visit and inspection, learning in work and introducing talents; basic strategies to accumulate social capital include self increase of social capital and economic-social capital exchange. It is the repeated and successful application of these strategies that maintain the advantageous role of rural community elite.
