WTO and Its Impact on India's Small-Sized Industries

Small industries constitute an important part of India's industry. Typified by low investment, quick returns and the capacity for absorbing a huge amount of surplus rural labor, these industries are of great significance to the socio economic development of India. The Indian government has stipulated protective policies to encourage their development. India's entry into WTO gives these small enterprises new opportunities of growth, but at the same time it also puts them in confrontation with new challenges. In meeting with these challenges, the government of India has taken some countermeasures which so far have proved effective.
