TO be, or not to be, that is the question ..." to Hamlet and to the majority of people, who generally treasure life and fear death. In many cultures it is taboo to raise the topic of death in everyday discourse, but this is not the case with the Chinese people. To them life and death are a common conversational topic. Their matter of fact approach is illustrated in the sayings: "Human life is nothing but a stage over which the sun and the moon  相似文献

正ONE of the strangest claims about China that sometimes appear in the media is that it has a slow growth of consumption and living standards. In reality China has the fastest growth of consumption of any country in the world–whether this is measured only by household consumption or includes government consumption in areas vital for quality of life, such as education and health.Furthermore, indicators show that compared to other countries,China’s quality of life is better than would be expected from its present stage of economic development.First the facts regarding these issues are established and then they will be analyzed.  相似文献

Travelling by rail, road or air across the vast western region of Xinjiang, the impression is of a lifeless desert of grey sand and gravel. In this, one of the world's driest places and the farthest point on the planet from any ocean, occasional patches of green show that life is possible. Desert settlements are called oases. Their survival depends on a secure supply of water. Recently I visited the Turfan (Tulufan) Oasis, 185 kilometres south east of Urumqi, the regional capital. Not only is this hottest place in China (summer + 40 degrees), it is also the second lowest place in the World - nearby Moon Lake is 154 metres below sea level. Rainfall is practically nil.  相似文献
