Speech on the Symposium of Commemorating the 40~(th) Anniversary of Sino-Japanese Treaty of Peace and Friendship

on February 6 th, 2018, the Symposium of Commemorating the 40 th Anniversary of Sino-Japanese Treaty of Peace and Friendship organized by Chinese Association for International Understanding was staged at Wanshou Hotel, Beijing. Liu Hongcai, Vice President of Chinese Association for International Understanding and former Vice Minister of International Department of Central Committee of CPC attended and addressed the meeting. More than 30 representatives, respectively form Chinese social organizations and institutions such as All-China Youth Federation, All-China Women's Federation, Chinese Association for Japanese Studies, People's China, visiting representatives of Broad National Coalition of Liberty, Peace and Democracy, as well as from the Beijing branch of Japanese non-governmental organizations and institutions such as Council of Local Authorities for International Relations, Beijing. Representatives from both China and Japan made heated discussion and actively contributed to themes such as giving full play to the role of nongovernmental organizations, enhancing bilateral communication and improving bilateral relations. 2010年以来,中亚地区宗教极端势力趋于活跃：趁中亚部分国家政局动荡和社会危机加紧向政坛渗透;利用中亚地区新一轮伊斯兰化思潮加大极端思想宣传;完善组织体系和实施新的暴力恐怖活动。中亚地区宗教极端势力的活跃将对地区国家政治、经济建设、地区间国家关系产生重要影响。

和平与发展研究中心与兰州大学中亚研究所于2010年10月19日在兰州大学共同举行了"美国中亚政策与中美关系"研讨会,来自国防大学、上海复旦大学、和平与发展研究中心、兰州大学中亚研究所、甘肃友联会国际问题研究中心等研究机构的30余位学者出席了会议。会议紧紧围绕美国的中亚政策和中美关系这两个方面进行了研讨。会议对美国到底有没有中亚战略、中亚战略与中亚政策有没有区别、美国目前在中亚的存在对中国的能源多元化战略以及对中国西部地区的安全是机遇还是挑战等问题进行深入的探讨,为我国学术界的中亚研究拓展了思路。这里选辑了部分会议稿件刊登,以飨读者。

China-Japan-ROK Relations in Post-Beijing Olympics-Summary of the Sino-Japan-ROK Trilateral Symposium

The trilateral seminar of ＂China-Japan-ROK Relations in Post- Beijing Olympics＂ - organized by China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations （CICIR）, the Asahi Shimbun Asia Network （AAN） of Japan and the Hwajeong Peace Foundation of Northeast Asia Daily （the Dibg-A Ilbo） in South Korea--opened in Beijing on October l lth, 2008. Over 30 representatives from China, Japan and Korea attended the seminar and shared their views on a variety of issues, including China beyond the Games, security cooperation in Northeast Asia and Sino- Japanese-ROK cooperation in a new era. The discussions are summarized as follows     

Open Doors and Closed Ceilings: Gender-Based Patterns and Attitudes in the International Studies Association

In 1995, the Gender Research Committee of the International Studies Association conducted a survey of the membership concerning the impact of gender on members' lives. In 2006, the Women's Caucus for International Studies sponsored a follow-up survey utilizing similar questions. A comparison of the findings of the two studies shows increased representation of women within international studies, persistent frustration with the slow pace of progress in women's access to senior positions and in accommodating family issues, some evidence of a chilly climate for women and a leaky pipeline, and significant differences between men's and women's perceptions of the status of women in the profession. The 2006 survey reveals a marked increase in concerns regarding the tension between women's family responsibilities and the academic environment, identification of structural discrimination, and concerns that men have been disadvantaged by affirmative action for women.     

野田佳彦内阁及其内政外交政策走向

野田以往的政治风格具有明显的“鹰派”特征，此次却以自比“泥鳅”击败对手而当选和组阁，足见当下日本政坛亟需执政党内抚平嫌隙、党外合作对冲的政治格局。外交上，野田会继续强调日美同盟和奉行“拉美抗华”的基本政策，但近些年日本领导人频繁更迭已大大影响美日之间的机制性对话，而对华政策是其外交成败的关键，周边外交可能会引起亚洲各国的警惕；国内经济问题堆积如山，不可能轻易取得解决；朝野政党为争私利的恶斗不会平息，将会招致越来越多国民的反感。

Editors’ introduction: critical terrorism studies: practice,limits and experience

The articles in this special issue are drawn from papers presented at a conference titled Critical Terrorism Studies: Practice, Limits and Experience. The conference was organised by the Critical Studies on Terrorism Working Group of the British International Studies Association (BISA). The event was supported by both a BISA workshop grant and by Loughborough University’s Centre for the Study of International Governance (CSIG) and was held at Loughborough University from 9–10 September 2013. The conference aimed to explore what we know about terrorism and counterterrorism and importantly to ask how we know it. Reflecting the recent “materialist”, “everyday”, “experiential” and “narrative” turns in the fields of International Relations (IR), Geography and Cultural Theory, the event brought together scholars and practitioners to reflect on practices of research and knowledge production in Critical Terrorism Studies and related fields. The articles in this special issue reflect those aims.
